Between 17 and 27 March 2026, the 1st edition of the LeaRn4LIFE training programmes took place in Portugal, with sessions held at the Department of Earth Sciences of the University of Coimbra and at the Urgeiriça Mining Complex in Canas de Senhorim. The initiative comprised three training courses with different durations: Course 1 (1 day), Course 2 (3 days) and Course 3 (5 days), designed to meet the needs of different professional profiles and sectors linked to the radon field. The courses covered topics related to radon exposure, monitoring, remediation, legislation, risk communication and mitigation measures in buildings.
The practical component of the training included demonstrations of monitoring and remediation techniques, detector deployment, visits to the Natural Radioactivity Laboratory and Chalet Aurora, as well as activities carried out at the Urgeiriça Mining Complex.
This first edition represented an important milestone for the LeaRn4LIFE project, enabling the testing and validation of the training materials developed by the consortium while strengthening professional capacity in the field of radon prevention and mitigation.
